Senior Year Showdown: A Friendly Competition for Scholarships with Friends

Senior Year Showdown: A Friendly Competition for Scholarships with Friends

I’ve worked with some amazing students. They come up with the most creative ideas. One student came up with the 10 / 10 program. Each month, she and 9 of her friends would meet for lunch, each bring $10 extra dollars to put towards a generous tip for the waiter / waitress. They tipped $100 each time they met for lunch and took turns choosing the restaurant and the person that they would bless with the money. I loved this idea!

Several years ago, I had the privilege of working with another amazing young lady who was very ambitious and knew she’d someday like to attend medical school. Knowing this, she decided to create a scholarship club and have a friendly competition to inspire her to find as many scholarships as she could to pay for her undergraduate. Every day during study hall, she and her friends committed to spending that time at school searching for and applying to scholarships with their Imagine Scholarships accounts. I’m happy to report, she not only paid for her undergraduate with scholarships but also for a large part of her medical school. You can too.

Senior year is an exciting time filled with milestones and memories, but it’s also a crucial time to secure scholarships for college. Why not turn the scholarship hunt into a fun competition with your friends? In this blog post, we’ll explore how you can use your senior year to compete with friends to win the most scholarships and a fun strategy for a scholarship group to do this together.

  • Set the Stage:
    • Gather your friends who are also applying for scholarships and propose the idea of a friendly competition. Emphasize that the goal is to motivate each other and celebrate everyone’s successes.
  • Establish Ground Rules:
    • Decide on the rules of the competition, such as the duration (e.g., the entire senior year), the types of scholarships eligible (e.g., academic, merit-based, need-based), and how points will be awarded (e.g., one point per scholarship won).
  • Create a Scoreboard:
    • Designate a place (physical or virtual) where everyone can track their progress and see who is leading the competition. This could be a shared spreadsheet or a bulletin board in a common area.
  • Celebrate Each Other’s Achievements:
    • Throughout the year, celebrate each other’s scholarship wins, big or small. This can include shoutouts on social media, small rewards for reaching milestones, or group celebrations.
  • Collaborate on Applications:
    • Share resources, tips, and advice with each other to improve everyone’s chances of winning scholarships. You can also review each other’s essays and applications to provide feedback.

No matter what approach you decide to use, looking for scholarships with friends is more fun and you can celebrate each others wins and accomplishments. It’s a win for everyone. Using Imagine Scholarships will help you find and win the scholarships you’re looking for.
